4-30-10
The last 30 days or so have been very productive and rewarding. We now have 12 of the fifteen hour lessons for the Technician license course posted on our website. The remaining three are just about complete and will be posted most likely sometime this weekend.
The lessons are produced in Microsoft PowerPoint with embedded audio. Should you not have Microsoft Office on your computer, there is a free download called Power Point Viewer which can be used.
The class files may be found on the left side of the website, home page, and is called SCARS Downloads. This download section covers other material as well for the Southcars organization, but one will find the Outreach section clearly highlighted for your needs.
For your ease and convenience, we have duplicated the lesson files on this document.
Don’t have PowerPoint? Use Microsoft’s FREE PowerPoint Viewer (free download).

STATUS UPDATE 3-22-10
The Southcars Outreach Program is gaining momentum. Again this is a Southcars movement to encourage people of all ages to become interested in our amateur radio hobby, and assist where we can to see this interest finalize itself to the point of obtaining radio licenses.
Although yet in our early stage of preparation, we have some basic plans under consideration that we would like to share with you.
1-We have developed an information flyer which will be sent to our entire membership. This will be asking each member to please circulate within their community, and further direct interested people in our direction. This flyer and request is scheduled to be sent this week.
2-A publication to be posted on QRZ has been made, and will be posted this week indicating our intent, and our motivations.
3-We plan to offer for starters a Technician training course using a now prepared PowerPoint presentation with embedded audio. This will be accomplished over a seven to eight week period and conducted on our SCARS Echolink 96140 and IRLP 9614 server.
Entrance of those registering for this course will be made by contacting a prearranged conference available on Skype, will be administered by a licensed control operator, and in turn will be patched to and from our SCARS server.
4-Although not yet finalized, we are currently looking at 8 PM EDT on Tuesday for the main one hour course for the week, with a review time for those in need on each Sunday at 7 PM EDT.
5-It should be understood that due to the varying requirements for licensing around the world, that at present this course will just be covering the requirements necessary for licensing within the jurisdiction of the United States. We graciously offer time and space on our server for other countries should they wish to pursue this opportunity.
Further details as they become available will be published on this website at WWW.VOIP.SOUTHCARS.COM and in specific the Outreach Corner area of this home page. Questions, comments or suggestions may be forwarded via email to VOIP@SOUTHCARS.COM.
