1-Become familiar with the find feature. To open the "Find station or location window" click on the black binoculars found in the tool bar at the top of your screen. From here your can search for a particular call or location. IE: KY6V-L or Deleon Springs. This saves you the effort of attempting to scroll through 3 to 4 thousand stations that are listed.
2-Become familiar with the "Alarms" feature. This is found in the Explorer view under alarms. Those stations that you keep in regular contact with or wish to know when they are on line or have departed are listed in this window. To enter a station into your alarm listing, click on the yellow bell found in the tool bar at the top of your screen. This opens a window from which you can add or delete stations in this alarm category.
3-Be aware that you have the option to select a keying point from your keyboard instead of using your mouse and the lightning bolt from your screen. This can be found by searching the help file under "PTT". Select the Preference category and scroll down to the PTT window information.
4-Under normal display, the main menu lists stations grouped according to their style of operation. In descending order these are: Repeaters, Links, Single users, and Conference servers. A handy tool that you can use, when needed, is to click on the column heading. These are Station, Stat, Time, Location, and Node number. When doing so, this places that particular column in Alpha Numeric order. This is particularly handy when looking for a specific node number.
5-Please be aware that Echolink provides a service called "Test Server" or "Echotest". This system records your transmission and plays it back to you. This allows you to make any changes in your audio setup that you deem necessary. The server node number is 9999 or can be accessed by going to the stations tab at the top of your screen and selecting "Connect to Test Server". This is also useful for determining if you have a firewall issue or not.
6-As general information it should be understood that the Echolink connected to screen will only display 16 stations. This condition exists even when you are in a conference of 50 to 100 or more stations. If your screen shows that you are indeed connected to the server, not to worry, as the NCS has a means to know that you are there. 7-In consideration for those stations checking in as Repeaters or Links, please allow a minimum of 3 seconds prior to keying your system. This allows time for their "time out" timers to reset.
8-If you are a Link or Repeater system please be considerate of others and take steps to mute your local announcements, courtesy beeps, ID's, and use squelch tail suppression.
